Kaizer Chiefs - Kickoff

The Premier Soccer League resumed on Tuesday night and a total of 15 goals were scored during the first four matches.

In Port Elizabeth Chippa United came back from a goal down to beat Baroka FC 2-1 at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

In the Mother City the second placed Cape Town City FC overpowered Gordon Igesunds’ Highlands Park with a 3-0 win.

In Johannesburg the leaders Wits strengthen their hold on the top spot with a 5-0 drubbing of the resurgent Ajax Cape Town, while in Soweto Kaizer Chiefs moved up to third in the standings with a 3-0 win over Serame Letsoaka’s Free State Stars.

Letsoaka says his chargers were anxious to play against the Soweto Giants and this led to their defeat.

“At half time I had to settle the nerves of the players,” said the coach during the post-match interview.

“I told them to protect the ball a little more and to make sure that we don’t lose possession like we were doing in the first half.

“We were also playing too many back passes in the first half as opposed to the second half when we tried to go forward more.

“Our turnovers were also a little bit slow, but we were more organised in the second half”.

Wednesday night at 19:30 Bloemfontein Celtic host the league champions, Mamelodi Sundowns, at the Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium. At the same time, Platinum Stars play at home at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg where they will host Orlando Pirates.
