A WOMAN IS IN CRITICAL CONDITION AFTER BURNING HALF OF HER BODY WITH A MAGNIFYING GLASS:

Maybe you SHOULDN'T let your kid go outside and use a magnifying glass to set ants on fire. Not only because it could be turning him into an aspiring sociopath . . . but because it can be REALLY dangerous.

On Friday, 34-year-old Robyn Foose was playing with a kid's magnifying glass outside.

She managed to catch the sun at the correct angle to focus an EXTREMELY HOT beam of light . . . the kind you'd need to set an ant on fire.

Except the beam didn't hit an ant . . . it hit Robyn's clothing.

And at more than 212 degrees, it set her clothes on FIRE. By the time the fire was put out, she'd suffered burns on HALF of her body.

Now she's in the hospital in critical condition

A JUROR IN DETROIT COULD GO TO JAIL HERSELF . . . FOR POSTING THE JURY VERDICT ON FACEBOOK BEFORE THE TRIAL WAS OVER:

We hear so many stories about people losing their jobs . . . or not getting hired in the first place . . . because of what they post on Facebook. And yet, people keep on posting before they think . . . and keep getting themselves into serious trouble.

20-year-old Hadley Johns of Warren, Michigan, could go to JAIL because of a Facebook status update.

Earlier this month, Hadley was serving on a jury in Detroit for a resisting arrest case. Back on the 11th, she posted on Facebook that it was, quote, "gonna be fun to tell the defendant they're guilty." The problem? The trial wasn't over yet.

The defense lawyer in the case found out about the posting when his son was Googling the various jurors . . . and he told the judge. She had Hadley removed from the jury . . . and now, it looks like she could be found in contempt of court.

She might get a fine or community service, but jail time is possible. She's due in court on Thursday to find out.

As for the resisting arrest case, the prosecutors ended up dismissing the case when the jury . . . including Hadley's replacement . . . couldn't reach a unanimous verdict. So the defendant wasn't guilty after all.

Here's a photo of Hadley from her Facebook page . . . which she's now shut down . . .

A guy named Khuram Sher was arrested in Ottawa last week for allegedly being part of a terrorist group. And it turns out he auditioned for Canada's version of "American Idol" back in 2008.

He got rejected on "Canadian Idol" after doing a lame version of "Complicated" by AVRIL LAVIGNE

Facebook is trying to trademark 'face'

According to court documents, Facebook is now trying to trademark the word "face."

Facebook, which has gone after sites with the word "book" in their names, is also trying to trademark the word "face," according to court documents.
But the social networking site has met with a familiar foe.

Aaron Greenspan has asked for an extension of time to file an opposition to Facebook's attempt.

Greenspan is the president and CEO of Think Computer, the developer of a mobile payments app called FaceCash.
"I'd bet against 'face' being awarded to Facebook," said Henry Sneath, a patent and trademark lawyer based in Pittsburgh. "You cannot overtake the use of a generic word people use in everyday speech."

British Airways appologises for playing emergency message warning on Flight to Hong Kong!

British Airways apologised to passengers after an emergency message warning they were about to crash into the sea was played by mistake.
About 275 passengers were on the London Heathrow to Hong Kong flight on Tuesday evening when the automated message went out. The plane was flying over the North Sea at the time.
Cabin crew quickly realised the error and moved to reassure the terrified passengers.
"We all thought we were going to die," Michelle Lord, 32, of Preston, told The Sun newspaper.

A BEIJING FREEWAY IS 10 DAYS INTO A TRAFFIC JAM . . . AND IT MAY NOT BE CLEARED UP FOR A FEW MORE WEEKS:

This is one of those things that would be earth-shattering news here in the U.S. . . . but just kinda makes sense in China. Right now in Beijing, there are people who've been stuck in a 62-mile traffic jam FOR TEN DAYS. With no end in sight.

Chinese officials had to close one freeway because it had been so damaged that it was un-drivable. That pushed all the traffic to another freeway, the Beijing-Tibet Expressway, on August 14th . . . and since then it's been hopelessly jammed.

According to officials, the traffic jam may not be fully cleared up until MID SEPTEMBER. Local residents have been taking advantage of China's new capitalism trend by selling noodles to stranded drivers . . . at inflated prices

Here's a pic of the madness:

3-Year-Old Saves Dad's Life!

The parents of 3-year-old Alesaundra Tafoya have been teaching their daughter about safety in their community, pointing out such safe havens as fire stations if she ever finds herself in trouble. Boy did those lessons pay off. Her father, Frank Tafoya, collapsed in the home after admittedly taking "a mixture of medication I wasn't supposed to at the time."

So Alesaundra did exactly what she had been taught -- walked two blocks to reach Fire Station 243, a firehouse the family passes daily. Once there, she told firefighters that her dad was "frozen" and wouldn't wake up.

Capt. Robert Villalovoz said, "I've been here over 20 years. It's the first time I've had a 3-year-old walk up to the fire station." Alesaundra then escorted rescuers back to her house, where her father was "sitting in the living room, needing medical care." Doctors said without the prompt medical attention he got, Frank Tafoya would have died.

At the age of 5, I got hold of my mother's old tape recorder and used it to make my own news and weather programmes. Since then, I've been in love with that little box that plays with my imagination!

I might have lacked the talent to become a surfing pro, but you’d never say it! When it comes to life, I like it when the surf’s up. I apply my “Go big or go home” philosophy to everything I do– including “night moves” weeknights at 10pm when I’ll be playing more of the world's biggest songs.
