The route to radio
Paul started in Radio back in the days when radio was the only form of entertainment in South Africa, working as a voice artist and character actor, but he soon moved on and has been heard on various South African and even Namibian radio stations a presenter.
The universe took a chance on Paul putting him on television too. "I have a GREAT face for radio!" He says smiling. "Radio is where its at," Paul insists, "radio is one on one, only one person (me) responsible for my own mistakes, as opposed to for example TV, where everyone else gets the blame, the auto-cue lady, the vision mixer, the director, heck even the make up artist!!" "Television is so slow, radio is on the spot, immediate and so much more intimate! Plus, you can listen to radio in the shower, BUT just try watching TV there ....."
Paul has ventured overseas a few times too, working on radio in the UK, Seychelles and in TV in Qatar in the Middle East. "But there's nothing like home" he insists, "this is the ONLY place you can get 'proper boerewors' and chutney and egte skaaptjoppies!"
Paul's hobbies are fishing and family time, and he admits he's a real techie geek, "I have to play with everything that comes out, its an addiction" he says glancing at his new fancy mobile phone to see what's the latest is on Twitter. "Its so great to always be in contact with the world, you wont believe who I was texting from the bathroom this morning ...."
The sound of my show on OFM
Paul, who has often wondered how you know you're running out of ink when you use invisible ink, is on air every Sunday from 9 to 1 playing those songs we all know so well from years gone by in GOLD RETOLD, bringing back memories .... and hopefully making some too! |
