The following position has come up within our Content Hub Division in Bloemfontein
JOB TITLE: Desk editor / Sub editor
EDUCATION: Relevant tertiary qualification
EXPERIENCE:
- Relevant experience as sub editor / translator and / or copy writer / editor
- Be able to function within a multi-media environment
- Have a valid code 08 (B) drivers licence
BRIEF JOB DESRCIPTION:
Be responsible for the editing of news/content to ensure that facts, spelling and grammar are correct; that the story is written in accordance with OFM’s style guidelines; and to ensure that stories fit within the required time (bulletin)-slots. The execution of this description will include the following activities:
- Compile news bulletins
- Identify relevant and interesting news stories and angles (thus understanding the concept of ‘news’)
- Telephone interviews and editing of these contributions
- Manage and edit sound-bites
- Editing / translating and re-vamping of news stories / bulletins for radio and the various digital platforms
- Monitoring of daily news (local, national and international) via newspaper, internet, TV and relevant digital mediums.
PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES & REQUIREMENTS:
- Have an understanding for and an interest in radio/print news. An above average general knowledge of news and current affairs will thus be preferential
- Be a team player
- Have exceptional communication and written skills, in English and Afrikaans. A third language will be an advantage
- Be able to work under extreme pressure and to tight deadlines
- Be willing to work odd hours, including weekends and public holidays
- A working knowledge of a camera and/or video camera
- Have a background in print and/or radio news
- Have keyboard and IT skills. Audio and video editing ability would be advantageous

- Have at least 5 years experience as an on-line print and/or radio journalist.
- Be in possession of a code B driver’s licence.
- Be able to function effectively within a multi-mediaenvironment
BRIEF JOB DESRCIPTION:
- Candidates main responsibilities will be:

Sourcing news, doing interviews, re-angling stories, presenting sound-bites, handling press releases and do follow ups where necessary

- Have a passion for journalism and an extensive general knowledge of especially news and current affairs
- Be a team player
- Have exceptional communication and written skills, in English and Afrikaans. A third language will be an advantage

- Have an existing contact network
