#SaferFestiveSeason: Two in court after crime spree | News Article

Two suspects will appear in court today after a crime spree that began in 2016 in Kuruman.

The suspects face charges of kidnapping, rape, robbery and hijacking. They were arrested during the Northern Cape police’s Safer Festive Season operation. Police seized two unlicensed firearms and ammunition after the suspects were traced to their hideouts in Bodulong and Maruping near Kuruman. One other suspect remains at large. They will apply for bail at the Kuruman Magistrate’s Court. According to the police’s Olebogeng Tawana, the arrest will assist in resolving many cases…

Tawana urged the wanted suspect to turn himself in at his nearest police station. Northern Cape Commissioner, Peter Shivuri, said that there will be no hiding place for criminals. “If it happens that they run into the water, we shall retrieve them. If they go into the sky, we shall arrest them. All our resources are ready for the operation. We are determined to lock down on criminals,” explained Tawana.

The Safer Festive Season operation has already yielded about 170 arrests in the Northern Cape and North West. Charges range from possession of drugs, possession of suspected stolen goods, theft, and the illegal possession of a firearm, among others. According to the North West’s police spokesperson, Sabata Mokgwabone, more than 2000 fines were also given for liquor and traffic-related offences.
