It is all systems go for the Department of Agriculture in the Northern Cape which has started to roll out its Drought Implementation Plan.

The department's spokesperson, Zandisile Luphahla, says the roll-out of R11 million worth of vouchers for fodder for animals in the drought-ridden Namakwa region is expected to start today (Monday). The money was allocated to this region and is part of R30 million that has been made available by provincial government for immediate drought relief.

He says the application for drought relief in this region has already closed, but farmers in the Frances Baard, John Taolo Gaetsee, Pixley Ka Seme and ZF Mgcawu districts have until today to apply for relief. He says there are, however, some requirements for drought relief application that farmers need to take note of. They need to provide a title deed, lease agreement or letter of occupancy, a certified copy of their ID’s and a Brand Mark Certificate. He says the application date for drought relief by farmers in these districts are today. They can still visit their nearest Agricultural regional offices to complete the drought relief application form. He says the application deadline might be extended if farmers cooperate.
