Residents of Kimberley in the Northern Cape could be left without water for a whole 24 hours this weekend.

This is according to a release from the Sol Plaatje Municipality, who is now implementing stage 5 water restrictions. The release says the reason for the water situation is because dam levels are critically low and have not reached the acceptable level. They say they have not received sufficient rain since November 2018.

The release further states that the water supply in the city will be stopped every day from 18h00 at night until 04h00 in the morning.  This water shutdown will occur every weekend until the dam levels at the Newton Reservoir stabilise.

Meanwhile, OFM News is trying to get hold of the municipalities spokesperson for comment.
