North West DA, UDM and FF Plus want corruption to be dealt with─── LUCKY NKUYANE 08:09 Wed, 01 May 2019
Various political parties are making a last push in the North West for their campaigns before the general election on 8 May.
This, as leaders of the DA, UDM, Cope, APC, and Freedom Front Plus on Tuesday held a debate in Klerksdorp in the Matlosana Local Municipality. The Democratic Alliance's Chris Hattingh said the province needed to address massive corruption.
FF+ MP Wouter Wessels said it is high time corruption in the country is given the necessary attention. The UDM's Nqabayomzi Kwankwa, said the entire model of government, and not only policies, needed to be changed.
Meanwhile, this debate come in the wake of the burning of infrastructure and looting of foreign-owned shops in the area by irate residents.
Extension 10 residents went on the rampage looting shops in protest of a lack of service delivery, among other reasons.
In total, 21 suspects, including 5 minors, were arrested by the police. The minors were expected to appear in the children’s’ court on 3 May to face a charge of public violence.
