The Greek Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Terens Quick, has wished the country the best of luck for its upcoming general elections on Wednesday 8 May 2019.

Although he vehemently refused to comment any further about the state of politics or any other issues concerning the elections, he says he hopes the country prospers.

Quick was speaking with OFM News on the sidelines of the Hellenic community meeting held in Welkom in the Free State on Sunday.

He also expressed many thanks to the minister of foreign affairs, Lindiwe Sisulu, and says he enjoys the political and diplomatic relations between South Africa and Greece.

Quick says he hopes to soon chat with Sisulu again to discuss foreign international matters.

Scores of Greek people on Sunday filled the church to capacity.

According to reports, it is unknown how many Greek expats currently reside in South Africa, but the number is believed to hover above 45 000.

South Africa was a major reception centre for Greek immigrants, especially during the mid-20th century.

The largest Greek communities are in Johannesburg, followed by Cape Town, Pretoria and Durban. Bilateral relations between the two countries continue to be on good ground.
