#OFMElectionWatch: Light rain falls in Kimberley

#OFMElectionWatch: Light rain falls in Kimberley | News Article

Light rain has been reported in parts of the Northern Cape this morning, which may affect voter turnout in these areas.

OFM News' Pulane Choane, who is in Kimberley at the Independent Electoral Commission's nerve centre, says despite this, the IEC in the province says they are closely monitoring the situation and doesn't believe that this rain will affect the numbers of people who will be taking to the polls throughout the course of the day as people set out to vote.

"The weather this morning in Kimberley is rather chilly, which is a bit of a contrast to yesterday's warm and sunny conditions. While we historically know from previous elections that chilly weather tends to keep residents away from voting, the IEC in the Northern Cape's Maruping Wildebees told OFM News earlier on that they're closely monitoring the situation and contingency measures are in place, however, he doesn't expect much rain as the weather services informed him that there would only be 5 to 15 mm of rain today, which should mean that the weather will clear up during the course of the day. Our correspondent in Upington also tells me that it also rained last night in that part of the province and it looks cloudy this morning as well but he will update us on the weather as well as the voter turnout as the day progresses," Choane says.
