It remains to be seen if residents of the troubled Tshing in Ventersdorp will today brace the cold and cloudy weather in the North West and cast their vote in the sixth democratic elections after reports of intimidation.

One local resident, who wants to remain anonymous, tells OFM News that residents were told not to cast their vote, citing lack of service delivery that includes road and water infrastructure.

She says following the threat she felt terrified and decided not to vote after they were told that they would be stoned if they decided to go and vote.

The Dr Kenneth Kaunda District has been declared as a possible hotspot with at least 17 areas under the police’s radar.

OFM News previously reported that two ballot boxes were burned in Ikageng Extension 19 in Potchefstroom in the JB Marks municipality with no arrests made as yet.

Meanwhile, voting is underway in Montshioa in Ward 8 at Batswana Secondary School and no incident has been reported yet. The police are on the scene monitoring the situation.

She says one of the issues concerning residents is that they want a mall built on the N14.

OFM News correspondent, Olefile Vilakazi, says the Rotary Pre-school in the Mahikeng Local Municipality’s Ward 32 opened late. According to residents in this area, IEC officials arrived at around 07:30 and told them they will be ready from just before 08:00 to allow the voters inside.
