Last week, OFM News had reported that the Phuthaditjhaba home affairs office is worried about the large number of uncollected smart ID cards.
That was according to the office's chief clerk Rebecca Moshoeshoe, who was asking people to come and collect their documents in the light of the May 8 elections.
According to Moshoeshoe, uncollected card owners were helped to apply through the Maluti-A-Phofung (MAP) local municipality in a form of transport supply.
The municipality’s Kedibone Sentle confirmed that the municipality helped residents with transport to apply for the smart ID cards earlier last year, but is struggling due to a lack of resources.
This came after equipment belonging to the municipality was seized by the sheriff of the court to pay a debt owed to Eskom.
