On a day that millions of South Africans are heading to the polls to vote with the hope that the future of the country will change for the better, one particular resident seems unfazed and unaware of the elections.

A resident in Mahikeng, who referred to himself as Jerry Simuku, seems unaware and carries on with his normal daily life struggles, trying to have something to eat by the end of the day.

He tells OFM News that he is not even aware that the rest of the country is heading to the polls today. He ask what would it in any case change in his life, had he went to cast a vote like the rest of the country.

Carrying recyclable materials in the rainy Mahikeng weather, Simuku forms part of millions suffering and plagued by poverty.

Different political parties and private institutions, including political commentators, cautioned South Africans - especially the poor who are heading to polls - to be cautious with their vote.

Millions of people in the country are said to be poor and struggling to make ends meet while millions are also without jobs - the majority being the youth.

The unemployment rate in the country is said to have decreased to at least 27.1 percent in the fourth quarter of 2018 from 27.5 percent in the previous period.

The economists say the number of unemployed went down by 70 000 to 6.14 million and employment opportunities rose by 149 000 to 16.53 million.
