#Election2019: NW mostly incident free | News Article

Police in the North West say they have not received reports of disturbances in the province on Election Day.

This is despite reports that the situation in the Dithakong Village, roughly 20km outside Mahikeng, is tense with residents barricading the controversial single tarred road in the area with burning tyres and rocks. Police spokesperson, Sabata Mokgwabone, says he is not aware of the disruption but they are on the ground to ensure that elections continue smoothly.

Meanwhile, over 20 people arrested in Ganyesa on Monday 6 May 2019, for torching a vehicle belonging to the IEC Area Manager, will appear in the Local Magistrate’s court tomorrow. These individuals are facing various charges, including contravening the Electoral Act. Mokgwabone told OFM News previously that the suspects went on to damage the voting material that was loaded in the vehicle. "A police vehicle that was escorting the two vehicles was allegedly pelted with stones," he said.
