#OFMElectionWatch: Voting proceedings underway in Upington after long delay | News Article

Voting proceedings in the Northern Cape’s Upington town are underway following a long delay in the opening of the Rosedale voting station.

It was reported earlier by the OFM News correspondent, Roderick Titus, that by 08:00 the stationed was not open yet.

Two prominent members of the Northern Cape’s provincial and local government, namely Premier Sylvia Lucas as well as Abraham Vosloo, the Mayor of the ZF Mgcawu District Municipality, which is seated in this town, are also expected to vote later.

The chairperson of the South African Policing Union (Sapu), Myrtle du Plessis, is voting in Keimoes, about 70 kilometres from Upington. She urged apathetic youth to use today’s opportunity to vote as this is the one time that they can tell the government of the day what they expect of it.

The weather in Keimoes at this point is cold and windy but no rain has been reported as yet. Meanwhile, voters across the province continue to walk to their respective voting stations in small but steady numbers. The IEC’s Provincial Electoral Officer, Bonolo Modise, says while they hope that there will not be any bad weather for the remainder of the day, they anticipate that proceedings at most voting stations around the province should proceed without any glitches.
