Votes from throughout the Free State will later be captured at the Results Operations Centre in Bloemfontein.

This is also where issues that arise on election day are reported before the Independent Electoral Commission can investigate.

As a result the South African Police Service is present to ensure the integrity of votes.

Power cuts hit the centre three times early this morning just as Election Day kicked off. The Commission’s communications officer, Mmabatho Rasengane, explained that no part of the results’ processing has been affected as power from a generator soon carried the load. “We are using a backup generator for now. Centlec is going to investigate what the problem is and will let us know. It is, however, not affecting the nerve centre in any negative way,” said Rasengane.
The short electricity cuts began at about 08:00 this morning. The spokesperson explained that Centlec staff were on the way, and things are going on as usual at the centre where analysts, politicians and members of the media have gathered awaiting the provincial voting outcome.
Rasengane also mentioned that voting kicked off well in Bloemfontein compared to towns such as Marquard and Ficksburg where voting stations opened late due to protests. In Bloemfontein, a voting station in Ward 47 received voting material late but this was quickly rectified to smooth out the voting process for residents.
