#OFMElectionWatch: FF Plus clarifies its position on ‘White Afrikaner’ interest | News Article

The general perception that people have about the Freedom Front Plus being exclusive and only looking after the interests of white Afrikaner people are misguided and misinformed.

This is according to the FF+ leader in the North West, Hannes Schutte.

He says the party has had black independent candidates working and standing for the party in elections in the most rural areas of the province.

He says these misconceptions are wrong and ill-informed and says in many parts of the province one is able to find different people speaking different languages as opposed to Setswana, which is the dominant language in the province.

He says in such situations, those who speak Sesotho or IsiXhosa will be referred to as minorities in terms of their ethnic group or the language, and these minorities sometimes find themselves fighting a hard battle for their languages to be recognised in institutions like schools, amongst others.

Schutte says the party is merely trying to protect the rights of the minority with the confinement of the country's constitution without looking into the issues of colour.

Previously the FF Plus approached the Electoral Court in a bid to prevent the Black First Land First (BLF) from participating in the general elections.

The party, in its bid to see the BLF axed from the elections, said that the IEC erred in registering the BLF.

FF Plus leader, Pieter Groenewald, was quoted saying he believed the case against the party was strong as the Electoral Commission Act prohibits the IEC from registering a party that excludes people from joining, based on race, ethnicity and skin colour.
