#OFMElectionWatch: Polls show ANC in NC is leading | News Article

The African National Congress (ANC) is currently leading the polls in the Northern Cape, where it has received over 94 000 votes thus far.

Trailing behind it is the Democratic Alliance (DA) which has thus far received 62 599 votes, while the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in the province have received 13 084 votes thus far.

This is based on figures which have been provided at the IEC’s operations centre in Kimberley, where the number of counted votes has steadily been coming in since last night after voting stations closed.

The IEC’s provincial manager, Elkin Topkin, said so far about 180 000 votes have been counted but he remains unsure about the number of people that actually voted.

Meanwhile, at the time of publishing, only the ANC was present at the centre. It was expected that the 29 contesting political parties will flock to the centre after voting stations closed last night.

Electoral officers at the centre continue to tally incoming counted votes and indications at this point suggest that this process should be concluded by lunchtime today.

Nationally, the results also show that the ANC is currently leading with over 1,2 million counted votes. The trend is also that the Democratic Alliance is trailing behind with 597 134 votes counted thus far and the EFF is third with 178 147 votes thus far.

Nationally, the IEC says 2 241 663 valid votes have been counted so far.
