NW parties react to the latest polls with ANC in the lead with 60% | News Article

Various political parties in the North West has reacted to the latest polls showing the ANC leading, the EFF in second and with the DA in third position.

The Democratic Alliance leader and premier candidate in the province, Joe Mcgluwa, says he is optimistic as the results further trickle in with 50% expected.

The Freedom Front Plus’ (FF+) Fanie du Toit says he is satisfied with the current results that show its growing support within the province.

The Economic Freedom Fighters' Papikie Babuile, says despite attempts by the ANC in the province to instigate and deter people from voting, the EFF is doing pretty well at the moment with 16% holding the second position in the province.

Meanwhile, the African National Congress says it is concerned by the low voter turnout in the province, despite leading by over 60 percent in the polls with a quarter of the votes in the province already counted.

The Coordinator of the ANC’s provincial task team and current Minister of Science and Technology, Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane, acknowledges voter turnout figures fell when compared to the 2014 general election figures due to the rainfall experienced in the province on election day.

Kubayi-Ngubane goes on to admit that frustrations over service delivery and the ongoing political uncertainty in North West also affected the number of supporters that took to the polls.

The party is, however, confident that they will continue to lead at the polls and will have a better picture of their position in the province around midday when 50% of the votes have been counted.
