Results at 58 voting stations in troubled NC municipality still outstanding | News Article

The provincial manager of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) in the Northern Cape, Elkin Topkin, says there are 58 voting stations that are yet to provide their results.

Reporting from the Mittah Seperepere Convention Centre in Kimberley where the IEC’s operating centre in the province is based, OFM News' Pulane Choane said Topkin stated that the counting at these centres was complete but what was outstanding was arranging these counted votes in tabular form.

All these voting stations are based in the Joe Morolong Local Municipality which covers several villages and rural parts of the province, including the Batlhaping Ba Ga Jantjie, Sehunelo, Motlhware, Phadima and Lotlhware villages. Apart from these 58 stations, Topkin said there was only one other station in Kuruman which also had outstanding results but he expected that the matter would within the next hour be sorted out at that said station.

Meanwhile, he revealed that so far 92% of the results from all parts of the province had been submitted. He also said that the voter turnout at the moment stands at 390 332 people, which shows an increase in voter numbers in the province compared to 2014, as the province had 26 000 less people voting.

Finally, Topkin said that he is cautiously optimistic that all voting results will be submitted from the various voting stations by 8 pm this evening.
