#Coronavirus patient goes AWOL | News Article
North West Health MEC, Madoda Sambatha

The North West Health MEC has raised his concerns with how patients who tested positive for the coronavirus in the province are not adhering to rules and regulations prescribed to them.

This, as a patient from Potchefstroom who tested positive, went awol after leaving a B&B.

In an interview with NewzRoom Afrika on Saturday, 28 March, MEC Madoda Sambatha says the patient was successfully tracked down near Ekurhuleni in Gauteng.

Sambatha says another patient is currently held in quarantine at the Mahikeng Provincial Hospital after the family alerted the departmental officials and police. The province has now recorded one new case, taking its tally of confirmed cases in the province to six.

"We need to adhere to President Cyril Ramaphosa‘s call to stay home, wash hands, maintain social distance and avoid crowded places," he adds.

Meanwhile, the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) stated the number of COVID-19 cases increased to 1 187.

So far only one person died due to the virus while 31 patients have recovered.
