#16DaysofActivism: NC man sentenced to life | News Article

With 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children Campaign in full swing, the National Prosecuting Authority in the Northern Cape confirms a man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife and child.

Daniel Dipheko has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the provincial High Court for the murder of his wife, their son and the attempted murder of their other children.

Spokesperson, Mojalefa Senokoatsane, confirms Dipheko will face the might of the law following a crime he committed in December 2018 when he poured a flammable substance on his wife, Abigail Mathuto Mogadile, and set her alight.

Their 16-year-old son, who could not escape the burning house which caught fire in the process, also died while his other three children survived the ordeal - although they sustained burn wounds.

"On the night of 12 to 13 December 2018, Dipheko and his wife quarrelled after he accused her of having an affair. Allegations were denied by the wife. He then interrogated the children and they all denied that such an affair existed between their mother and another man. Out of anger, Dibeko threw petrol and/or another flammable substance on his wife, Abigail Mathuto Mogadile (43), and set her alight. She died on the same day, at the hospital," explained Senokoatsane.

Dipheko has been sentenced for murder, attempted murder and arson. The sentences will all run concurrently.
