The Mangaung Metro Municipality’s electricity utility, Centlec, says an investigation will soon unfold following hundreds of scattered CVs outside its premises in Bloemfontein.

The utility’s spokesperson, Lele Mamatu, tells OFM News an urgent meeting is underway after scores of job seekers picketed outside their offices on Thursday morning, seeking clarity on how CVs with personal documents landed across the pavement and road in front of the utility’s main entrance in Bloemfontein.

Whilst job seekers gathered outside Centlec’s premises, they told OFM News they suspect foul play and deem scattered CVs as an act of sabotage against thousands of unemployed youth. Mamatu, on the one hand, refutes these allegations that their employees have a hand in this. He confirms the closing date for vacancies is Friday 26 March and that they will communicate before the end of business on Thursday regarding the possibility of extending the closing date and how investigations will unfold.

“We have just learnt about this unfortunate situation. We got a message that there was a group of people outside that came, forced their entry and destroyed the box that we have placed near the gate for people to place their applications in. It is a matter that we are currently looking into and currently giving attention to, as we speak,” said Mamatu.

OFM News previously reported that nepotism is amongst some of the issues sharply raised by job seekers gathered outside the gate.

Mamatu, in the interview with OFM News, however, rubbished these claims stating that they are unfound. He appealed to those with “strong allegations and proof to come forward and to approach law enforcers”.

He further highlighted that allegations of sabotage by their employees are “unfounded allegations and that he is hearing of them for the first time”. He added that as far as they are concerned, this processes has been running smoothly for the past two weeks and that it is a “surprise” that they are experiencing the challenge today.
