The Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court is set to virtually conduct the court appearance of Mackenzie Ratselane, accused of stabbing his wife, Dimakatso Ratselane, multiple times.

Mackenzie, who is married to the SABC presenter, failed to appear in court on Tuesday following the revelation of a suspected Covid-19 case.

The National Prosecuting Authority's (NPA) Phaladi Shuping told OFM News that the state has received correspondence that Mackenzie's court appearance was postponed in his absentia, to Wednesday 24 March. His case is likely to be transferred to the regional court in Bloemfontein, where he could be slapped with more charges before his case gets transferred.

During his last appearance, Mackenzie, who faces charges ranging from attempted murder, kidnapping, and the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, abandoned his bail application.

OFM News understands that the facility is currently under a precautionary lockdown where a massive screening process is taking place.

Meanwhile, scores of ANC Women's League members, the EFF Central Command Team and members of the Progressive Professionals Forum (PPF) have been picketing outside the court to highlight the issues of gender-based violence against women. They have also called for a harsh sentence against Mackenzie.

Mackenzie was arrested in Ennerdale in Gauteng. His arrest came after Dimakatso was found lying in a pool of blood with multiple stab wounds in Bloemfontein.

Mackenzie and Dimakatso are said to have quarrelled on their way to fetch their children in Phase 2. She was later found by friends and residents in the Dinaweng area near a popular tavern and was subsequently sent to Pelonomi Netcare Hospital in Bloemfontein.
