The event, set to be held at the Ubuntu Local Municipality, is expected to draw attention to the socio-economic challenges faced by women in the province. The dialogue, led by Speaker Newrene Klaaste, also comes as the country observes the last day of August, commonly known as Women’s Month. 

OFM News earlier reported that the Free State Legislature on Monday held a similar event in Welkom, where issues of gender-based violence (GBV) were sharply raised. 

In an interview with the Speaker of the Free State Legislature, Zanele Sifuba, it was confirmed that the rising unemployment figures is a major cause of concern for many women, with those in the Free State calling for job and businesses opportunities. 

The latest Quarterly Labour Force Survey (QLFS) indicated that unemployment in South Africa now stands at 34.4% - the highest it has ever been. The women in the Northern Cape are also expected to raise their concerns over their financial status and the lack of job creation in the Northern Cape.
