#GBV: NC suspect due in court after girlfriend's murder─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 08:16 Tue, 07 Sep 2021
A 23-year-old man is set to appear before the Lehurutse Magistrate’s Court at Potchefstroom in North West after being accused of murdering his 21-year-old girlfriend.
North West SAPS spokesperson Amanda Funani said on 4 September 2021, the suspect was allegedly involved in a quarrel with his girlfriend near a local tavern where they came from. She said it is alleged that the suspect dragged the victim into the nearby bushes of Gopane Village outside Zeerust, assaulted and strangled her to death. He then went home and left the body of his girlfriend in the bushes. Funani said that the police investigated the matter and found the deceased body after the suspect disclosed the incident to his mother. She went to the police station to report the case. The suspect was eventually arrested and charged with murder.
Funani further said that the Provincial Commissioner instructed the detectives to make sure that the state opposes bail.
