Two pressure groups whose disgruntlement recently led to the halting of the launch of the Mangaung Metro Police, have made their presence known and felt during Cyril Ramaphosa’s visit to Bloemfontein.

Members of both the Mangaung Concerned Community (MCC) and the Mangaung Service Delivery Forum (MSDF) were present during Ramaphosa’s campaign tour in Bloemfontein. The latter marched to one of the community meeting points to express their grievances whilst the former was present in Bochabela and revealed that they have penned an open letter to Ramaphosa on the mounting issues in Mangaung. MCC leader, Themba Zweni, tells OFM News that they will no longer allow elected councillors to lead without accountability to the residents that voted them into office.

Zweni says they want all candidates contesting the local elections in Mangaung to sign a pact before 1 November, compelling them to prioritise the people that put them in office.

When asked if MCC has given up on its demand for the Mangaung Council to be dissolved, Zweni acknowledged that the dissolution of a council is a complex process and time is against them presently. What they do want is for the metro to turn a new page post 1 November.

Meanwhile, residents in phase 7, Bloemspruit, and its surrounding areas have come out in their numbers for Ramaphosa’s visit. The president apologised to these residents for their service delivery failures and promised to correct their wrongs.
