Thousands of Northern Cape residents are expected to join millions of South Africans to make their voices heard by voting for their political parties or even independent candidates of choice.

On Monday, about 623 000 registered voters in the province are expected to cast their votes at 728 voting stations which opened at 07:00 and will close at 21:00. These are the ninth municipal elections since the dawn of democracy in 1994.

Different political parties such as the EFF, ANC, DA and Freedom Front Plus (FF Plus) are contesting for seats at municipal councils. Municipalities such as the Kimberley-based Sol Plaatje have recently faced sporadic violent protests with residents voicing their dissatisfaction with the lack of service delivery, corruption, and fraud amongst many issues.

Meanwhile, IEC spokesperson in the province, Elken Topken, has pleaded with residents to show up at their voting stations, which stretches from Port Nolloth, down to Sutherland, Colesburg, and up to Heuningvlei.

There are more than 1500 independent candidates across the country and a total of 300 political parties standing in this November elections.

Many political analysts have tipped the ruling party ANC to win the majority of municipalities but with a significant decline in the number of votes.

This as irate residents seek to punish the ruling party for not fulfilling its promises of creating jobs, improve living conditions, and ending corruption and fraud across many municipalities and government departments in the country.

OFM News previously reported that in the Northern Cape 40% of the 93 000 special voters were able to cast their votes on Saturday.

"The more successful area was our home visits. We had 60% of the 32 000 home visits that we were able to process on Saturday and the remainder was to be completed on Sunday.
