Almost 10 NC IEC stations failed to open on time - VIDEO | News Article

Almost ten voting stations in the Northern Cape failed to open on time Monday morning - the day of the 2021 Local Government Elections.

This is confirmed by IEC Provincial Manager, Bonolo Modise. He says some of the voting material was delivered very late but that was soon sorted and those stations are now up and running to allow voters to cast their votes.

Modise says except for these minor delays, nothing major has so far been reported and he hopes that come 21:00, when the IEC closes their voting stations, all would have gone well and smooth. At least 623 000 registered voters are expected to vote across 728 voting stations in the province.

"It has been a very good start because other stations managed to open on time and I went to vote at Kimberley. The line there was just unbelievable. I've seen from other stations in Kimberley as well, so it clearly shows that many South Africans are taking this chance very seriously, by going to the stations to vote. We are hoping that there will be no incidents, because so far none have been reported," he adds.

This morning there was a mixed reaction from residents in Kimberley. This as things got off to a slow start with residents not showing up at voting stations as was anticipated. But this was, however, different in areas such as Lerato Park where residents showed up in their numbers to cast their votes. Tens of residents had formed a long queue with young and old showing up.
