Some residents of Kimberley in the Northern Cape have braved the scorching sun and went out in their numbers in an attempt to cast their votes.

According to the South African Weather Services (SAWS), the maximum temperature on Monday is expected to reach 32 degrees Celsius, with no possibility of rain.

Despite this, some residents from areas such as Lerato Park, who are yearning for change in the speed of service delivery - including water and sanitation - could not be deterred to come out and cast their votes. Young and old hope that things can change for the better once these 2021 municipal elections are done.

According to the IEC Manager in the province, Bonolo Modise, almost ten voting stations in the Northern Cape had failed to open in time this morning. He told OFM News that some of the voting materials had been delivered very late but that was soon sorted out and those stations are now up and running, allowing voters to cast their votes. Modise said except for these minor delays, nothing major was reported thus far and he hopes that come 21:00 this evening, when the IEC closes their voting stations, all would have gone well and smooth.
