#Elections2021: Vote counting continues in NC | News Article

The Northern Cape Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) expects to have all votes for the Local Government Election results counted later on Tuesday.

As at 07:00 on Tuesday morning, the ANC is leading the vote counting with 45%, the DA has 24%, and the EFF recorded 8% support. In total, 59 seats have been allocated in three councils whilst over 121 000 votes have been counted. 70% of the votes are expected to be counted by 09:00, whilst 90% are expected to be counted at around 14:00 in the afternoon. The IEC on Monday said by 14:00 there was a voter turn-out of 24%, whilst at 17:00 28% was recorded.

The ANC Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) in the Northern Cape denied the projection done by the market-research company Ipsos and analysts, that its support base drop down to at least 30% to 40% during the 2021 municipal elections.

The Provincial Secretary, Deshi Ngxanga, said the analysis done by many analysts on the decline of the party in many municipalities lacks fundamental scientific reflection.

Almost ten voting stations in the province failed to open on time on Monday.

The IEC Provincial Manager, Bonolo Modise, told OFM News that some of the voting material was delivered very late but that was soon sorted and those stations are now up and running to allow voters to cast their votes.
