The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) in the Northern Cape has finally given an update on the Frances Baard vote count.

The commission’s spokesperson in the province, Wildebees Maruping, tells OFM News that it is only in the Sol Plaatje Local Municipality, which includes Kimberley, where vote counting is still ongoing. So far, according to the IEC polls, the ruling party, the ANC, is leading the municipality with 49% of the votes. The ANC has won all of the three other municipalities in the region that have completed the counting of votes. The vote counting in the entire province is now 86% completed.

The three municipalities in the district that have counted all their votes, include Dikgatlong, Magareng, and Phokwane. The ANC received 51% of the votes in the Barkly West-based Dikgatlong Local Municipality, followed by the EFF with 17% and the Patriotic Alliance (PA) with 10% of the votes. At the Warrenton-based Magareng Local Municipality, the ANC scooped the elections by a margin of 50%, followed by the DA with 20% and the EFF with 13% of the votes. In the Hartswater-based Phokwane Local Municipality, the ruling party managed to garner at least 47% of the votes, with the EFF managing to score 23% of the votes, and the DA managing to secure only 13% of the votes.
