It has been confirmed that the VKB Knights have been struck by a fresh wave of Covid-19 infections. In June, two top-order batsmen in the squad returned positive results, and both players were asymptomatic and spent 14 days in self-isolation.

Following the latest round of testing, three players and a member of the technical team returned positive results. One of the new infections is one of the players that previously tested positive.

It has postponed the Knights official return to training to next week.

The newly signed all-rounder from the Cape Cobras, Matthew Kleinveldt, told OFM Sport that the pandemic has been somewhat disruptive, but he is enjoying his time thus far in the City of Roses.

“It’s been an indifferent preseason I would say”, said the cousin of the Proteas bowling all-rounder, Rory Kleinveldt.

“With the virus around, we’ve had to take extreme precaution around the ground. It’s been very different at times and has felt disorganised, but not from our planning.

“As you’ve duly noted, as the infections have occurred we’ve had to put training on hold here and there.

“But other than that, it has been a fantastic time so far in Bloemfontein. My family and I have really taken to the Bloemfontein culture if you want to put it that way.”

The Mangaung Oval has been decontaminated in order for the players to return to a somewhat safe environment to resume training next week.
