Kultuur Kruiwa - Spotlight on Ster-Kinekor's Vision Mission Project | News Article

Ster-Kinekor’s Vision Mission Project travels to Bloemfontein

Ster-Kinekor Theatres will continue to give the gift of clear sight when their Vision Mission Eye Care Project travels to Bloemfontein.

On 16 May 2011, over 60 schoolchildren from underprivileged communities will receive what for many will be their first pair of spectacles at the Ster-Kinekor Cinema Mimosa Mall in Bloemfontein.

Afterwards the team from Spec Savers will give an educational and informative talk about how to best care for their brand new spectacles.

Fitted with their brand-new prescription glasses the children will be treated to a special screening of Winnie The Pooh, which tells the story of an ordinary day in the Hundred Acre Wood when Winnie the Pooh sets out to find some honey. Misinterpreting a note from Christopher Robin, Pooh convinces Tigger, Rabbit, Piglet, Owl, Kanga, Roo, and Eeyore that their young friend has been captured by a creature named "Backson" and they set out to save him.

As Ster-Kinekor’s flagship corporate social investment initiative, Vision Mission identifies disadvantaged learners with visual problems across the country, before fitting them with the proper glasses.

Geraldine Engelman, Ster Kinekor Theatres CSI & Project Manager comments:
“This ongoing campaign is aimed at eliminating easily treatable eye problems in underprivileged communities, as well as raising awareness of poor vision as a major public health challenge in South Africa. Already, thousands of children have been provided with spectacles, vastly improving their education prospects and their quality of life. The Vision Mission initiative is being undertaken in partnership with Pareto Limited, which owns Mimosa Mall. This venture is part of their CSI initiative.”

To contribute to Vision Mission, book your movie tickets online through www.sterkinekor.com or opt to make a small donation when booking at the Self-Service Terminals in Ster-Kinekor cinema complexes nationwide.

About Vision Mission

Vision Mission operates throughout the year nationally. They have screened over 54 000 disadvantaged learners since 2005, in conjunction with the Departments of Health and Education.

Funds for the Vision Mission initiative are raised jointly through Ster-Kinekor Theatres, its customers and the general public - who can make donations as small as R2.50 when booking movie tickets either through the Self-Service Terminals in Ster-Kinekor Cinemas nationwide or the company’s website - www.sterkinekor.com

Next week the Kultuur Kruiwa will have an update of this event with some photos of the happy faces :-)
