Zanu-PF: Mugabe 'out or impeachment starts' | News Article
Sacked Zimbabwean president, Robert Mugabe

Harare - Zimbabwe's ruling party Central Committee says longtime President Robert Mugabe must resign as president by noon Monday or impeachment proceedings will start.

Associated Press reports the Zanu-PF party has fired Mugabe as party chief, expelled his wife and named the recently dismissed Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa as the party chief.

Parliament resumes on Tuesday and impeachment proceedings would begin then.

Zanu-PF members who voted for President Robert Mugabe to be recalled are part of a "historical moment".

This is what Zimbabwe's secretary of finance Dr Obert Mpofu said on Sunday.

He was addressing the Zanu-PF's central executive committee shortly after the party announced Emmerson Mnangagwa as its interim president.

Mpofu said Mnangagwa's appointment will rejuvenate the party.
