NC drought relief programme includes commercial farmers | News Article

Drought relief in the form of fodder will be distributed equally to not only emerging farmers, commercial farmers will not be excluded.

This is according to the MEC of Agriculture in the Northern Cape, Nomandla Bloem, after the department has embarked on its drought relief implementation plan which was announced recently. R60 000 worth of fodder was collected and distributed from the department’s Rietrivier Research Station near Ritchie to emerging farmers  from the district and Prieska in the Pixley Ka Seme district. The fodder that was distributed are from the department’s fodder bank, where lucerne and mealies are grown and stored for drought alleviation purposes. Bloem told OFM News’ Christal-Lize Muller that commercial farmers will also benefit from the drought relief programme.
