What is new in Farmer’s Weekly?

What is new in Farmer’s Weekly? | News Article

In our Friday insert, only on Before Dawn, OFM News’ Christal-Lize Muller speaks to the Editor of Farmer’s Weekly, Denine Erasmus, about what to expect in their latest edition of the magazine…

She focuses on the November 22 issue of Farmer's Weekly with stories about drought conditions in many areas in South Africa which are suffering from prolonged drought - in many cases up to three years. The drought is taking its toll on the farming community.

In the news section, a meeting in Parliament is highlighted in which the Department of Agriculture shared what was needed in each province to bring some drought relief to the areas. A total figure of just around R1,3 billion is needed and most of that is in the Northern Cape where the current situation is dire.

There is also an article about what is happening in different commodities as a result of the drought. Erasmus says in this article the focus is on a massive shortage of lucern in Gauteng, with especially horse breeders who are really struggling to access feed for their studs.

Erasmus says the magazine also focuses on reports on the recent foot-and-mouth disease outbreak.
