What is new in Farmer’s Weekly?─── CHRISTAL-LIZE MULLER 06:16 Fri, 06 Dec 2019
In our Friday insert, only on Before Dawn, OFM News’ Christal-Lize Muller speaks to the Editor of Farmer’s Weekly, Denine Erasmus, about what to expect in their latest edition of the magazine…
She highlights a story in the news section about wine production globally and the wine harvest which is expected to drop by about 10%. In South Africa, however, the outlook for the 2019/20 wine grape season is a bit more positive compared to the global outlook as well as the local outlook the previous season.
The magazine also follows the foot-and-mouth outbreak and also learned this week that auctions across the country have been banned with only out-of-hand sales continuing through some of the auction houses. She says at this stage it is still difficult to determine the impact that this is going to have on supply over the festive period. There are, however, some expectations that there will not be a massive increase in meat prices over Christmas.
Erasmus also highlights more positive news with South African berry production which is set to increase by 80% over the next five years.
