All roleplayers in the agricultural industry need to join hands and share their expertise to strengthen bio-security in the industry.
Thoko Didiza, Minister of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development, says this to tackle the impact of animal diseases such as foot-and-mouth disease and the outbreak of African Swine Fever. Didiza said in her message at the launch of the much-anticipated Agriculture Development Agency (AGDA) at the Africa Agri Tech Conference and Expo (AAT) in Pretoria, better ways need to be found to strengthen the bio-security system of the country. She also appealed to all roleplayers to welcome the implementation of the African free trade area that will be effective in July. This will take place during the time that President Cyril Ramaphosa will be the chair of the African Union (AU). Didiza said it is well known that the agricultural industry is the pillar of South Africa's economy, that is why the sector must look at ways to improve better relations with government in order to ensure the country take advantage of the free trade area.
