Violence erupts at UFS, as man targeted | News Article

Unrest broke out at the University of the Free State’s Bloemfontein Campus when a group of students attacked who appears to be the Director of Financial Aid, over alleged NSFAS related issues.

A video of a group of students attacking a man, alleged to be responsible for financial aid, is doing the rounds, with a number of social media users asking whether classes will continue today (Wed) following the disruption that erupted yesterday.

It is alleged that the scuffle comes just days before the majority of students are expected to start with exams. Meanwhile, the AfriForum Youth says this is a matter of great concern and confirms that it has laid charges against a political student group at the University.

AfriForum Youth’s National Coordinator for Tertiary Institutions, Chantelle du Preez, says many classes and tests were disrupted during the demonstration by certain Students on campus and that students, as well as staff, were assaulted by the demonstrators.

Meanwhile, questions have been sent to the University's spokesperson, Lacea Loader. At the time this article was published they had not yet been provided.

OFM News will also provide a follow-up article with the EFF at the UFS Bloemfontein campus' response to the matter.
