#CentralParkCollapse: Woman remains in hospital | News Article

A woman remains in hospital after sustaining injuries when the ceiling of Central Park Shopping Complex collapsed on Wednesday 22 January 2020 in Bloemfontein in the Free State.

OFM News reported that 14 people had to be rushed to the Pelonomi Hospital after the ceiling of the mall fell.

The Free State Health Department spokesperson, Mondli Mvambi, says 13 patients have been discharged at the Hospital and only one patient, a 46-year-old woman, remains in hospital. Mvambi further says she has been seen in the hospital’s trauma unit and her condition is stable.

OFM News reported yesterday 14 people had to be rushed to Pelonomi Hospital following the collapse of a ceiling at Central Park Mall in the Bloemfontein Central Business District (CBD) on Wednesday. Police spokesperson, Thabo Covane, confirmed there were no fatalities reported. He, however, said a woman in her mid-40s was seriously injured. The portion of the ceiling that collapsed was in front of PEP Store and the Pie City shop. Covane also clarified that the collapse was due to a water pipe that burst.

The mall entrance is still closed as mop-up operations and investigations continue today. The exact extent of the damage is yet to be determined.
