Principal suspended after alleged #SchoolViolence─── LEATILE LEIEE 16:17 Mon, 27 Jan 2020
The school principal accused of allegedly assaulting a teacher in Welkom in the Free State has been suspended.
Officials of the Free State Department of Education headed over to the Lephola Secondary School in Thabong amidst these accusations by a teacher that made waves on social media this past weekend.
The teacher took to the internet and posted a rather disturbing picture of himself right after allegedly being assaulted by the school's principal. Learners and the community today expected MEC Tate Makgoe to address the matter personally but that was not the case. Raging pupils, triggered by the picture that was circulating on social media, took it upon themselves to show their anger by throwing stones and vandalising the gate of the school. OFM News spoke to the departments' spokesperson, Howard Ndaba, and he assured us that the Department is managing the situation at hand.
He afterwards confirmed that the department has suspended the principal, Abel Motseki, for assaulting the teacher. Despite teaching being halted for the day, it was said that proceedings at the school would resume as normal tomorrow.
