#WaterCrisis: Qwaqwa residents continue protests

#WaterCrisis: Qwaqwa residents continue protests | News Article

Residents of the Maluti-a-Phofung municipality, which includes Qwaqwa in the Free State, have decided they will continue to protest for running water from today.

Community leaders leading the protest say the provincial cabinet has clearly not solved their problem, and they now want the Minister of Water and Sanitation, Lindiwe Sisulu, to assist.

This comes after the Department of Water and Sanitation delivered a total of five water trucks out of 16 promised last week.

Sisulu also gave the municipality R220 million to curb the issue of water scarcity in late 2019.

Residents took on a two-week-long protest last month, which saw the functioning of most public services - including hospitals - interrupted.

Forty-seven protesters were arrested.
