An urgent meeting was called in terms of rule number 8 of the council's Standing Rules at the Mangaung Municipality.
OFM News reported from the meeting in the council’s chamberswhere a closed discussion amongst councillorstook place.
Shortly after proceedings had begun, a caucus was announced. The Deputy Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs(Cogta) Parks Tau told OFM News they had come to discuss the financial distress of the Mangaung Metro Municipality. The visit comes after the Deputy Ministerof Finance, David Masondo, wrote a memo to the Premier of the Free State, Sisi Ntombela, on how the municipality has suffered financially. This thus allows the provincial government to intervene and supply appropriate resources to manage the matter at hand. Mangaung, the first metro to be placed under administration at the end of last year, has been in the spotlight and suitable solutions would be discussed at the meeting, according to Tau.
