Brothers in court for smuggling rhino horn─── MARVIN NTSANE 07:32 Wed, 12 Feb 2020
Siblings allegedly involved in a rhino horn syndicate are set to reappear in the Springbok Magistrate’s court in the Northern Cape today.
Police spokesperson, Nomthandazo Mnisi, says brothers Mateus and David Novela, as well as Tomas Francisco, were arrested last week Friday with two rhino horns in their possession, estimated to be worth around R648 000.
Mnisi says the operation was led by the Hawks, following information received regarding a suspicious vehicle standing 20km outside the Vioolsdrif Border post in Namakwa.
Upon arrival, a search was conducted of the vehicle, and a bag containing two rhino horns was found. The suspects made their first appearance on Monday and were remanded in custody.
