Monareng brothers’ murder case postponed | News Article

Two brothers from Qwaqwa in the Free State, who allegedly murdered their biological father, appeared before the Phuthaditjhaba Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday 12 February 2020, and the case was postponed to 26 February 2020 for formal bail application.

It is alleged that the two murdered their biological father during what seemed like domestic violence on Monday night 10 February 2020. The older brother, Matetela Monareng (24), went to the police station to report a domestic violence incidence at their house on the same night.

The police accompanied him to the house and on arrival, the body of Nono Monareng (49) was found lying on the ground and he was declared dead on the scene. Police spokesperson, Motantsi Makhele, says the preliminary investigation revealed the deceased youngest son, Mohau Monareng (21), was fighting with his father, which ultimately led to the stabbing. The deceased succumbed to multiple stab wounds to his upper body and throat. Both brothers were arrested and charged with murder. The motive behind the alleged murder is still unknown.

The Free State police commissioner, Baile Motswenyane, appeals to members of the community to utilise health and wellness services instead of resorting to violence.
