Case against Matlosana's MM postponed again | News Article

The case against the embattled Matlosana Municipal Manager (MM) has once again been postponed in the Klerksdorp Regional Court on Wednesday 26 February 2020.

Theetsi Nkhumiseng appeared in court today for the second time on allegations of tender irregularities of more than R8 million. The North West Hawks spokesperson, Tlangelani Rikhotso, says the case has been deferred to March 20, 2020, with copies of the docket set to be provided to the court. Nkhumiseng allegedly contravened the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA) when appointing a service provider in a tender. The tender was set to supply and deliver paraffin for indigent communities in and around the municipality.

Nkhumiseng allegedly also failed to take reasonable steps to prevent irregular or fruitless expenditure. OFM News previously reported that the local council in September 2019 resolved to suspend Nkhumise following claims of financial irregularities stemming from the Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC) and the Auditor-General (AG), Kimi Makwetu. This is not the first time that Nkhumise has been in the news for all the wrong reasons.

Earlier in 2019, according to the Mail & Guardian, irate residents of the municipality approached lawyers to force the municipality to remove Nkhumise. This after he allegedly kept mum on his alleged criminal record and failed to disclose it to the municipality. But Kgaile, in an exclusive interview with OFM News in May 2019, said the allegations against the manager have no substance and are baseless. Kgaile said the municipality has done everything according to the book.
