#NCSopa: Denosa momentarily disrupts premier | News Article

Members of the Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa (Denosa) momentarily disrupted the speech by Northern Cape premier Zamani Saul during his state of the province address in Kimberley, held at the Mittah Seperepere Convention Centre.

Just when Saul started to address the hundreds of residents who attended the proceedings, a number of Denosa members rose in a silent protest with placards carrying the message "Govt Must Practice What They Preach".

The group descended from the gallery to the main area where honourary guests were seated. This disrupted the premier momentarily but after a short while, he continued with his speech.

Another placard indicated Denosa’s unhappiness with understaffed facilities and lack of tools.

Meanwhile, their protest follows after the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) earlier disrupted proceedings as they wanted the Speaker of the House,   Claudine Klaaste, to refer the matter that Saul lied under oath about his trip to Tanzania to the Rules and Ethics Committee.

EFF provincial leader, Aubrey Baartman, rose on a point of order and said Saul lied in his response earlier about who funded a trip to Tanzania for him and those who accompanied him. Baartman added that they are aware that the department of Sports, ailing municipalities, and other stakeholders in the province paid for the premier's trip to Tanzania.

"If you are under the illusion that we are here to disrupt the House, you are wrong because we are not here for that. Please rule on the matter we brought forward," Baartman requested the Speaker.

Following further pressure from EFF members, the Speaker buckled under pressure and made a ruling to send the matter to the Legislature’s Rules and Ethics Committee.

Baartman told OFM News the EFF is not impressed with Saul's leadership. He claims promises have not been kept by the premier and that he should be held accountable.
