#CoronavirusFS: Health Minister Mkhize visits FS | News Article

The Minister of Health, Zweli Mkhize, will be in Bloemfontein in the Free State today to disclose the exact number of Coronavirus positive cases.

This follows the confirmation of a few positive cases of the virus in the province on Thursday 19 March 2020. The spokesperson of the Free State Health Department, Mondli Mvambi, says Mkhize will give the details of these cases and also show his support to the province. He is expected to start at the Boiphelo House for a briefing with the Premier, Sisi Ntombela, and the MECs.

He will then move to the Brandwag Primary School where a big screening operation is expected to take place. This after two learners at the school might have been in contact with someone who tested positive for the virus. Mvambi says he will be overseeing the screening and meet with the parents and children. He says the Minister will then proceed to inspect the Isolation Area at the Pelonomi Hospital which is announced to have the capacity to host coronavirus patients in the province. Mkhize’s last stop will be at the University of the Free State where he is expected to meet with the Rector, Francis Petersen, and a team of its Medical School.

OFM News previously reported that the province has recorded its first cases of the novel coronavirus, making it the first province in Central South Africa to record such cases. Mkhize said some of the patients have already been taken in for quarantine by the provincial government.
