The VKB Knights made a big statement in the Momentum One-Day Cup on Sunday by beating the Titans by 111 runs in Kimberley.

The Knights batted first at the Diamond Oval, scoring 302 for 8 in their allotted 50 overs, thanks to 104 by the Proteas batsman, David Miller, and 90 by the captain, Pite van Biljon.

David Wiese was the only Titans bowler to make any real impression with the ball with 3 wickets for 53 runs.

For the visitors, Albie Morkel was the star with the willow with 117 runs, while Shaun von Berg with 29 and Tabraiz Shamsi with 11 were the only other batsmen to score more than 10 runs.

The fast bowler, Marchant de Lange, starred with the ball with three wickets for 16 runs in 7 overs.

The Knights captain, Van Biljon, told OFM Sport that whenever they play the Titans it's a big occasion.

"Whenever you play against the Titans, who are always a strong team, it's a very special game for us. They didn't play at their very best, but we played well although we made some silly mistakes. All-in-all we had a good game so it's a very good win for us and I'm very happy with that."

The Knights are currently lying in fourth in the standings with a game in hand and are still in for a good shout to reach the play-offs, but Van Biljon warns that there is still a lot of hard work lying ahead.

"It puts us in the middle of the table, but there are still four games left and the way the season has been going, teams have been beating each other left, right and centre. If we can get one or two more good results, we will be at the right end of the table and when the competition comes to an end, we'll be right up there. Hopefully we can sneak into the backdoor of the semi-finals."

The Knights will be in action again on Friday when they face the Warriors at St George's Park in Port Elizabeth.
